By 2020, at least 16 percent of green home projects will be constructed by 81 percent of homebuilders, according to a new study from the National Association of Home Builders.

Remodelers are expected to show a similar level of growth. Almost 75 percent homebuilders will be making at least 16 percent of their projects green by 2020, according to the study.

At present, 54 percent of homebuilders are constructing 16 percent of their new homes green, and 39 percent of remodelers report that at least 16 percent of their projects are green, according to the study.

More than 80 percent of homebuilders and remodelers believe consumers will pay more for homes that are healthier, according to the study.

“Most builders recognize that they need to be at least conversant in green to stay competitive,” said NAHB Chairman Tom Woods in a statement.
