According to the American Hardwood Export Council, at present China has added the USA to its list of “zika infected countries,” which means that all shipping containers exported to China will need to be treated as of Aug. 3 to receive a “Mosquito Eradication Certificate”, including those that contain wood flooring.

According to AHEC, all shipping containers which arrive at a China port without the proper certificate will be fumigated by China customs at about 45 cents per ton of cargo.

China implemented the rule after health authorities in Florida identified an active zone of Zika virus transmission within a Miami neighborhood on Aug. 3. A second zone of active Zika transmission, this time a portion of Florida’s Miami Beach, was announced Aug. 19.
